Use the wheel weeder at a fast walking pace to cultivate pathways and spaces between crop rows. Wheel weeders combine two actions: the undercutting action of a stirrup hoe and a light soil disturbance which sifts out smaller weeds. Together, these two actions are effective against weeds from the thread-stage up to about 4" in length. Choose the wider models for cultivation along footpaths and narrower models for cultivating in between crop rows in a bed. Double wheel weeders straddle a row for cultivation on both sides of a crop.
