Ginseng
American ginseng, a herbaceous perennial herb native to the cool, humus-rich woods of Eastern North America, is now rare in the wild. American ginseng can be cultivated under 70% to full shade; harvesting of the root, prized in traditional medicine as a remedial agent in fatigue and to increase vitality, can begin in the fall of the 5th or 6th year.
